SFC Tyler L. Day(U.S. Army), a native of North Carolina, with over 15 years of service as a Field Artilleryman, SFC Day has been a model of integrity and character.
SFC Day has significantly contributed to the promotion and improvement of the Field Artillery in numerous challenging assignments. He began his military career in 1989 with 6th Battalion 8th Field Artillery at Fort Ord, CA where he performed all the basic duties of a canoneer from Advance party Man to Gunner. Later, he served in Alpha Battery 4th Battalion 41st Field Artillery at Fort Benning, GA, where he served as an assistant gunner. SFC Day then served as a Senior Heavy Wheel Vehicle Driver in Service Battery 1st Battalion 15th Field Artillery in Camp Casey, Korea. He was then reassigned to Bravo Battery 3rd Battalion 29th Field Artillery at Fort Carson, Colorado, where he served as an ammunition team chief and section chief. He was then reassigned to Alpha Battery 2nd Battalion 320th Field Artillery in Fort Campbell, KY, where he served as a section chief. SFC Day then returned to Fort Sill and assumed duties as an instructor in Alpha Battery 1st Battalion 78th Field Artillery. He was reassigned to 2nd Battalion 2nd Field Artillery, where he serves as the gunnery sergeant in Charlie Battery and later in Bravo Battery as the Chief of Firing Battery.
SFC Day’s accomplishments include serving in combat as a section chief and firing numerous rounds, securing a key bridge in An Najaf, conducting six gun Air Assault raid on enemy strong holds, collected thousands of enemy weapons and rounds, distributed tens of thousands of liters of fuel to the Iraqi people in support of 101st Air Assault Infantry Division during Operation Iraqi Freedom and winning two consecutive “Top Gun” sections with two different sections and placing second out of 54 guns during a Divarty Top Gun Competion . His aggressive leadership style and commitment to soldiers resulted in his induction into the Forscom Sergeant Audie Murphy Club and receiving the Honorable Order of Saint Barbara.
SFC Day has served with distinction in each of his various assignments. His numerous awards and citations highlight his accomplishments. They include the Army Commendation Medal with (6 oak leaf clusters), Army Achievement Medal with (7 oak leaf clusters), the Army Good Conduct Medal (5th Award), National Defense Ribbon (with bronze star), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, South West Asia Campaign (with bronze star), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, the Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (numeral 2), the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, Drivers Wheel Badge and Air Assault Badge.
