Housing - Franklin Square Inn, Best Western
The Best Western Franklin Square Inn (FSI) is located just a short walk from the Michigan Tech campus and offers students a unique housing experience mixing many of the aspects of residence hall life with the comfort and amenities of a nice hotel. Residents of the FSI will have access to the hotel’s recreational facilities, including a fitness room, sauna, spa, and swimming pool.
To ensure that residents in the FSI are integrated into campus life, they live on a student-only floor of the hotel, with a Resident Assistant who provides the same services and community-building activities available in other residence halls. These air-conditioned, double rooms with a private bath feature wireless internet, free long distance (the FSI phone must be used), 25” television with cable and HBO (TV may be removed by making a request at the desk), a study lounge, and kitchen located on the floor.
Residents of the FSI are not required to have a campus dining plan. However, you are welcome to take advantage of the Top Dog meal plan. For more information on meal plans, please visit www.dining.mtu.edu/sub/big-dog-top-dog.html or call 906-487-2664.

How long will students be housed at the Franklin Square Inn?
Assignments at the Franklin Square Inn are for the full 2008-2009 academic year.
Who will staff the hotel?
The Franklin Square Inn is staffed 24/7 (longer than the desk operation on campus) and there will be a student staff member, just like a resident assistant, who will reside on the hotel floor with you.
Is parking available?
Parking is provided at the Franklin Square Inn free of charge, however you will need to register your vehicle online at www.housing.mtu.edu/facilities/parking.html to receive your parking decals when you check in. Vehicles registered after August 8 may pick up their parking decal at the Housing Facilities office located at G44 in Douglass Houghton Hall.

How do the phones work?
The phone system at the FSI operates from the phone the hotel provides in the room. Local calls and domestic long distance calls are free. To make a local call, dial 9 and then the number; for a long distance call dial 81. For international calls, please see the hotel front desk.
Will laundry services be available?
Washer and dryer will be available at the hotel. Additionally, the
Franklin Square Inn will be offering a weekly laundry service for $6.00 for
one large load washed, dried, and folded. You may sign up for this
service at the Franklin Square Inn front desk when you arrive.
Will housekeeping services be available?
An optional weekly housekeeping service will be provided for the cost of
$5.00 per room. If a room wants sporadic service this service is also
available for $7.50 per cleaning. This service does not include making
beds or linen services. You may sign up for this service at the Franklin
Square Inn front desk when you arrive.
When can I move into the hotel?
When you arrive at Michigan Tech, your first stop will be New Student Check-In. This is where you will receive your room access card and parking sticker (if applicable) and Orientation materials. The dates and times for check-in are:

Transfer Student Orientation is on Friday, August 29. Please visit www.orientation.mtu.edu for any Orientation questions. The first day of class is Tuesday, September 2.
What type of security is present?
The hotel has a staffed desk 24/7. Additionally students will need to swipe a hotel issued card to gain access to the floor after getting off the elevator or taking the stairs.
Where do we get our meals?
Residents of the Franklin Square Inn are not required to have a campus dining plan. However, you are welcome to choose from the traditional on-campus plan in the residence halls or take advantage of the Top Dog and Big Dog meal plans. For more information on meal plans, please visit www.dining.mtu.edu or call 906-487-2664. A kitchen is provided on the floor for your use to prepare your meals or snacks. Additionally, the restaurant on the hotel's top floor will be offering meal discounts to students.
What kind of bedding will I need?
Beds will be just like the residence halls with a extra long twin sheets being needed.
Who will be living at the Franklin Square?
Most of the residents will be transfer students.
