About the Art Show

>> 2008 Art Show

A few minor changes have been made for the second annual art show. The prizes and categories have both been expanded, and the rules have been reviewed to be more clear based on feedback from last year's show. Also, we understand that some participants may have stuff to display in a non-physical format (movies, slideshows, graphical elements, etc) which will be linked to this site and will be included in the judging. All judging will be done by a panel of important people, which will make us look good and be relatively professional. However, we will not disclose the names of the judges until after the event.

>> History

For the past fifteen (or more) years, there has been an art show for Michigan Tech students, faculty, and staff to enjoy. Usually grouped with a few week of events titled the Tech Arts Festival, this event held by the Memorial Union Board has seen both good and bad years. However, to the best of our knowledge, there has never been an event aimed specifically at the residence halls.

After a number of residents approached the Inter-Residence Hall Council expressing the want for a residential art show that was displayed in the halls and had more defined categories and rules, the three hall councils and IRHC put together the first Residential Art Show in the spring of 2007. This event saw surprising success, with dozens of entries in a variety of talents displayed in a traveling show through all three dining halls.
