Rules for the Art Show

PDF download

Please note that these rules are subject to the interpretation of the IRHC staff members. They aren't that mean, but can be a bit irrational at times.

Timeline

April 5 (for reals) - submit art pieces from 12 to 5pm in IRHC office, G13W Wads

April 7 to 9 - art show travels between three halls

April 10 - winners announced

April 10 to 12 - art pickup from IRHC office, time TBA

The Basics

Residents can submit a maximum of two pieces of art per category, but cannot submit more than five total pieces. All entries must be original and submitted by the artist themselves. All entries must be appropriate, for some of them may be placed in the halls. Also, some of the categories will be part of a traveling art show, so it is suggested that any physical submissions include protective equipment.

Categories

There will be seven categories: photography, painting/drawing, digital art, cinematography, poetry, sculpture, and mixed media. Of these, photography, painting/drawing, poetry, sculpture, and mixed media (if it includes one of the previous medias) must be submitted in physical format, digital format optional. Other art submissions, like digital art and cinematography, must be submitted in digital format, physical format optional.

Prizes

Prizes will be based per category, so we will be giving away seven first place prizes with similar cost value. Prizes are yet to be determined, but we are leaning towards gift cards to stores that reflect the category. So, digital art would win a gift card to a computer place, and painting to paint.

Photography

Photographs cannot exceed 8”X10”. Minor digital enhancements are allowable as long as they only accentuate the original image, not recreate it. Entries should be submitted on glossy cardstock if possible.

Painting/Drawing

Paintings/drawings cannot exceed 6 sq. ft. All paintings/drawings must be down by hand, i.e., without the use of computers and imaging software. Entries should be submitted with frames if possible.

Digital Art

Digital art is anything that is primarily created using a computer and imaging software and includes both 2-d and 3-d creations, as well as any digitally produced animations. Any non-digital introductions, such as scanned or photographed pieces, should accentuate the digital aspect of the art and not be the primary focus. Entries should be submitted in a reasonable digital format for judging. Printing of the art for the show, if possible, will not affect the judging.

Cinematography

Any videos submitted cannot exceed five minutes and length and must be submitted in a reasonable digital format. Videos must be of a recorded, not created or animated, origin. Any digital enhancements are allowable as long as they only accentuate the original image, not recreate it. Entries should be submitted in a reasonable digital format for judging, and any screen capture prints for the show display will not affect the judging.

Poetry

Poetry cannot exceed a page in length when typed or written on plain letter-sized paper, 8.5”x11”. Poetry with a picture/drawing to go with it would be considered mixed media. All entries must be submitted on a single physical white piece of paper.

Sculpture

Sculptures cannot exceed 20lbs and 20”x20”x20”. If the sculpture is painted in an artistic matter, it would be considered mixed media.

Mixed Media

Mixed media consists of at least two of the above categories combined in a single work. Cannot exceed 20”x20”X20” or 20lbs. Mixed digital submissions (like, a video with animation or exceptional digital additions) must be submitted digitally.
